Last week, Joel Rubin (AKA my dad) and I drove 10 hours west to mountainous Wise County, Va for the 14th annual Mission of Mercy (MOM) Project. Dentists come from all over the state to volunteer and provide dental care for people in need.

We went to MOM to produce a video for one of our clients, the Virginia Dental Association (VDA). Many VDA dentists make the annual two-day pilgrimage to Wise; some have even worked the clinic all 14 years.

To learn more about the VDA’s ongoing campaign “Want a Healthy Body? Start With a Healthy Mouth,” watch the TV commercial.

OK, where were we?

Ah, yes. MOM Project.

Organizers expected 1,500 people at this year’s event, which meant an historic milestone: at some point during the weekend, MOM Project would serve its 50,000th patient.

The lucky woman, Heather Herranney from Lebanon, Va, sat down in the dental chair around 8 am on Friday, July 19.

Watch the video and see Heather’s reaction!

In the photo below, the happy patient is surrounded by well wishers and her dentist that morning, Dr. Richard Roadcap, a VDA member from Colonial Heights.
