It started on the Peninsula 22 years ago and now has migrated east.

An Achievable Dream (AAD), which partners the business community with a school in a low income neighborhood, has helped raise student performance and graduation rates in southeast Newport News.  Last year it caught the attention of school officials in Virginia Beach, who worked with AAD leadership to locate a program in the resort city. It has now begun. (more…)

Extra, Extra! Read all about it…or not?

In a study released this week on Poynter.org, newspaper readership is dwindling and so are the people who provide the content.

It’s everyone’s favorite time of year – Canada’s Best Restroom Season!

In preparation for the annual contest on behalf of my client Cintas, I took the time to educate myself on Canada’s new anti-spam legislation (CASL) that went into effect on July 1. Corporations that violate the law are threatened with fines from $1 to $10 million, so I reached out to my contacts at the Canadian Public Relations Society, read and researched articles online and talked to CASL experts across Canada to be sure I remained in compliance. It’s important to stay up on industry information and protect my client from unintentionally breaking the law.

No, it’s not Facebook. It isn’t Twitter. And it’s not LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram or Flooger (OK, I made the last one up).

Despite the MANY social media options on the market, the #1 way to reach customers is still email marketing.

People live longer today and keep at least some of their teeth well into old age too.

But if they enter a nursing home on Medicaid, that’s when their dental care typically ends because that program provides little or no coverage even for cleanings.

CBDA, meet “content marketing.”

On Thursday, June 19, RCG’s Danny Rubin held a 20-minute presentation on the importance of content marketing for company websites.

The discussion happened directly after a luncheon for the Central Business District Association (CBDA) at the Westin Virginia Beach Town Center in the Viceroy room, which is adjacent to the main room for the luncheon.

What did Danny talk about?

Through a focused, engaging presentation, Danny explained the importance of “content marketing,” which is fast becoming the industry standard marketing model. With a solid “content” strategy in place, your business will separate itself from the competition and strengthen its trust and credibility with clients and customers.

See you Wednesday!

A ribbon cutting is a symbolic ceremony celebrating the opening of a new business, location or venture. Did you get bored just reading that sentence? So did we.

If a grand opening or start to a new business is supposed to be a celebration, it should feel like one! The problem with standard ribbon cuttings, and groundbreakings for that matter, lies with a lack of imagination. Just because you have a giant pair of scissors and a handful of important people on the invite list doesn’t mean you’re using the opportunity wisely. And even though “it’s how we’ve always done it,” that isn’t a good reason to do the same lackluster thing again. This is your chance to reach the public and make them remember your organization. RCG team members may not always make our beds in the morning, but now we’re thinking twice after a speech from Naval Adm. William McRaven.

In his recent commencement speech at the University of Texas at Austin, McRaven shares poignant lessons from his decorated naval career. It all starts with the first chore of the day. “Making the bed is a little task that reinforces how the little things in life matter,” says McRaven.

Since its upload on May 19, 2014, the video of McRaven’s address has gone viral — over 1.6 million views in just two weeks.  (more…)
