Registration is now open

Cold Spring, Ky. (For Immediate Release) – DAV (Disabled American Veterans) announced today that registration is open for its 2017 DAV 5K National Race Series in the following host cities: Atlanta; Boston; Cincinnati; San Antonio; Newport News, Virginia; and Tulsa, Oklahoma. The DAV 5K is a run, walk, roll and motorcycle ride that thanks those who served and raises awareness of the issues our ill and injured veterans face every day.

Virginia Beach, VA – Care-A-Lot Charitable Foundation will host its first Fall Fur Adoption event geared to finding “Forever Homes” for pets across Hampton Roads. The free event will feature local rescue groups matching pets with each family, a Kids’ Zone with crafts and games, more than 15 local crafters with handmade goods, vendors, food trucks and more.

In addition, the Norfolk International Airport Police Department will demonstrate the skills of their K-9 division.

Virginia Beach, Va. – The 22nd annual India Fest, hosted by local nonprofit group, the Asian Indians of Hampton Roads (AIHR), will take place at the Virginia Beach Convention Center on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. The free event draws more than 10,000 attendees each year and proceeds from sponsorships benefit various charities and disaster relief programs.

India Fest features all-day activities and entertainment, including Bollywood dance performances, yoga demos, and an Indian bazaar with clothing, jewelry and other vendors. Jerrauld “Jay” Jones, a Norfolk native and graduate of the University of Virginia Law School, is joining the Hampton Roads law firm Bischoff Martingayle P.C. as a partner. Starting July 5, he will join attorney Emily Munn in the firm’s Monticello Arcade office in Norfolk. Four other Bischoff Martingayle lawyers, including founders William Bischoff and Kevin Martingayle, have their primary offices on Pacific Avenue at the Virginia Beach oceanfront.

Bischoff Martingayle specializes in civil and commercial litigation, and Jay Jones will enhance that reputation according to Bill Bischoff. “Jay is one of the finest young attorneys in our region with excellent analytical, writing, speaking and interpersonal skills. We are very excited to have him join us as a partner.” Jones graduated from the College of William and Mary in 2010 and from UVA Law School in 2015. Between those two academic pursuits, he worked in New York for Goldman Sachs. Jones comes to Bischoff Martingayle after two years with the Norfolk law firm of Willcox & Savage PC. (more…)

WHAT: The Virginia Beach Community Development Corporation is hosting the grand opening of The Spot at Lake Edward, a new space that serves as a neighborhood hub for families. The goal of the townhouse, located at the end of a cul-de-sac on Pickering Street in Virginia Beach, is to engage neighbors, strengthen community bonds and provide a safe and secure environment for all residents. WHAT: More than 2,000 students from across Hampton Roads and Northampton County will gather for ACCESS College Commitment Day to celebrate their decision to further their education. 1,200 participated in the inaugural event in 2016. Since 1988, ACCESS has helped more than 55,000 students go to college by guiding families in South Hampton Roads and Northampton County through the admission and financial aid processes. During the high energy, one-hour long program on the arena floor, students, some of whom will be the first in their families to go to college, will share their excitement about this important step in their future on social media using #CatchMeInCollege2017.
