SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A Portsmouth woman who spent years fundraising for ALS research is now suffering from the deadly disease, and is determined to make the most of the time she has left.
Doctors diagnosed Beth Prever with ALS in April. She spent the previous eight years leading the charge to raise nearly $800,000 for research to fight the disease.
Prever’s focus now is crossing items off her bucket list with the help of family and friends. First on the list, go skydiving.
“When she told me she was going to do it, I didn’t believe it,” said Prever’s dad, Richard Williams. “But then I said, ‘Yeah, I believe that, because she’s fearless. She’ll tackle anything.”
Sunday, Skydive Suffolk offered discounts and donated money to Beth’s Brigade for anyone who jumped along with Prever. About a dozen people jumped, and even more came to watch and support a woman they call selfless.
“She’s a rockstar. She has faced everything, she’s done so much to help so many people and I’m touched that so many people came out to help her out as well,” said Prever’s cousin. “I’m just really proud of how big her heart is. She’s an inspiration, a true hero.”
