Virginia Beach, Va.– In the first contested election since 2001, members of the Virginia State Bar have elected Kevin E. Martingayle of Virginia Beach as their president-elect over Northern Virginia attorney Raymond Benzinger. The Bar governs 29,000 licensed attorneys in the Commonwealth.
The first VSB president-elect from the state’s largest city, Martingayle will assume the one-year post at the Bar’s annual meeting in June. He will become its president the following year. A founding partner of Bischoff Martingayle P.C., he is a 2nd District representative on the Virginia State Bar Council. He also serves on the Executive, Budget and Finance and Legal Ethics Committees. “The State Bar has an important role in the regulation of the legal profession, the advancement of legal services and in assisting the judicial system,” says Martingayle. “I look forward to this challenge and opportunity.”
Martingayle has memberships in the Virginia Bar Association, the Virginia Beach Bar Association, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the Federal Bar Association. A native of Richmond and a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts-Economics, Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Martingayle received his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1991.
Martingayle’s practice focuses on appeals, civil, commercial, employment and estate litigation; civil rights; and constitutional, land use and zoning, and municipal and administrative law. He has been listed in Virginia Business Magazine’s “Legal Elite” and “Virginia’s Super Lawyers” from 2006 to the present. Additionally, he has been “AV” Peer Review rated by Martindale-Hubbell from 2006 to the present. He has also been listed in “Best Lawyers in America” from 2009 to the present.
He is married to Elisabeth Martingayle and has three children.
