Newport News, Va. –TowneBank’s first Spirit of Excellence Scholarship winner at Christopher Newport University is Rocsanna Cavone, an accounting student with a minor in Leadership Studies. A graduate of Menchville High School in Newport News, she enjoys mentoring new students and giving campus tours.
TowneBank Peninsula President Brian Skinner made the presentation at CNU’s 21st Annual Scholarship Donor and Recipient Luncheon on November 8th. The new scholarship program provides $1,000 (renewable for three years) to one rising sophomore business student each year. The recipient is selected based on his or her hometown spirit, community service, and excellence in business studies.
“I am so grateful to TowneBank for this scholarship,” says Rocsanna. “It’s certainly an honor to be chosen, and I will continue to work hard in the years ahead.”
The TowneBank Spirit of Excellence Scholarship was created last year by TowneBank in celebration and support of CNU’s 50th anniversary. “I am very proud to partner with my alma mater on this program,” says Brian Skinner. “It was exciting to meet our first recipient, and I’m honored to give back to CNU in a way that will impact future business leaders.”
Anne Conner, TowneBank Williamsburg President, is also a CNU graduate, and she and Brian were recognized as two of CNU’s Top 50 Alumni in 2011.
