Town Center at Peninsula Town Center to ‘Light It Up Blue’
in Support of World Autism Awareness Day
Hampton, Va. – Peninsula Town Center (PTC) will recognize World Autism Awareness Day on April 2 by participating in “Light It Up Blue,” a unique global initiative that kicks-off Autism Awareness Month. The center will join many iconic landmarks, hotels, sporting venues, concert halls, museums, bridges and retail stores across the world by illuminating Town Square at sundown that evening.
Every year on April 2, Autism Speaks celebrates “Light It Up Blue” in commemoration of the United Nations-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day. So far, more than 19,000 groups across the globe have committed to participating. For more information, visit www.lightitupblue.org.
“As the occurrence of autism continues to rise dramatically, it is more important than ever to spread awareness and to show families affected by autism that the community supports them,” says Vanya O’Keefe, president of the Tidewater Autism Society.
PTC encourages visitors to show their support by wearing blue April 2 – 5 while they shop. Participants will receive a free gift (while supplies last) from Guest Services, located next to CineBistro, and select merchants will offer discounts that week. Visit the PTC website for details: www.peninsulatowncenter.com.
“Autism impacts one in every 88 children, including a child of one of our own employees, and PTC is proud to be a part of this effort to help raise awareness,” says Suzanne Higgs, Marketing Manager at PTC.
