TAO Announces Local Finalists in Emerging Artist Contest
Top 10 to Play at the Attucks Theatre on April 6
Norfolk, VA. – Entries for the Tidewater Arts Outreach 6th Annual Sea Level Singer/Songwriter Emerging Artist Contest have been reviewed, and it’s time for one of the top 10 to be crowned this year’s “Emerging Artist” on April 6 at the Attucks Theatre.
The 10 Emerging Artist finalists, in alphabetical order, are:

- Dustin Furlow- Virginia Beach
- Luke Hartman- Norfolk
- Sophie Harton-Virginia Beach
- John Kovacevich- Newport News
- Stephan Lazar- Norfolk
- Roy Moats- Newport News
- Will Overman- Virginia Beach
- Dan Pellegrino- Norfolk
- Jared Swift- Norfolk
The winner will appear live on radio shows Out of the Box (WHRV FM 89.5) and Hunter at Sunrise (WHRV HD3), perform on the Hampton Roads Show on WAVY TV, and headline a concert at the Attucks Theatre as part of their 2013-2014 Discovery Series. He or she will also receive a 10–hour recording session from Clay Garden Recording Studios, photography studio services from JPixx and Jim Knox Photography, a consult with More Music Group and other prizes and discounts.
The finalists will face a panel of three well-known judges, including Jeff Maisey, VEER Magazine; Paul Shugrue, WHRV; and Hunter Hughes, WHRV. The Emerging Artist Contest begins at 7 p.m. and tickets are $10 at the door. All proceeds benefit Tidewater Arts Outreach.
“This contest is a great way for us to show the community the tremendous talent we have right here in Hampton Roads,” says Tidewater Arts Outreach (TAO) executive director MaryAnn Toboz. “We are excited for their performances and to give the winner this new opportunity at a music career.”
The Sea Level Singer/Songwriter Festival, now in its 6th year, is a celebration of live, original music and art benefiting Tidewater Arts Outreach. The 2013 event kicks off with a concert at the Naro Theatre by indie-icon and former front man of Toad the Wet Sprocket, Glen Phillips, on April 4 at the Naro Cinema in Ghent.
