If you’re like me, you’ve probably logged onto LinkedIn a bunch of times and never noticed one of its best features.
It’s not easy to spot but can make a big difference for your brand and business.
At RCG, we pride ourselves on working well with others. It doesn’t matter if you’re a large corporation, nonprofit or small start-up in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake or throughout Hampton Roads. Once you’re a client, you have our attention.
Sometimes clients come to us and have never worked with a professional public relations agency. Or done any organized marketing. At all. These clients find us to be excellent teachers.
Over the last decade, things have changed quite a bit in public relations and marketing.
Back in 2005, reporters and editors were the judge and jury when it came to what got covered. It was either convince the media your client’s story was worth their attention or there was no story.
Being Meyera Oberndorf’s “confidante,” as Kerry Dougherty over-described me in The Virginian-Pilot, did have its perks. It gave me access not just to what was happening in her unique life, and how she somehow managed to keep it altogether, but also what it took to be a political survivor in a city that was used to not having a mayor for four consecutive years, much less five consecutive terms.

You might be thinking: how do I land my company in the news?
Sometimes the answer sits on the calendar. An editorial calendar, that is.
In every room around our office, you’ll see the RCG logo.
It’s on our business cards, letterhead and envelopes. If you dig deep into our supply closet, you’d find the logo on notepads, folders, thank you cards, polo shirts and probably a magnetic nametag or two.
Today’s post is the first in our “Meet the Team” series. We’re shining the spotlight on our newest employee, Account Manager Jennifer Hill, who comes all the way from New York City!
Not every story has a deadline of today.
It’s often hard to tell clients that the media will (hopefully) get something on the air or in print eventually, particularly when bosses or board members breath down their necks. (more…)

Yes Virginia, by the fall of 2017 there could well be a 16,000-seat arena, largest in the state, hosting major recording artists, sports tournaments, ice shows and other events that have traditionally bypassed Hampton Roads. It would be located in what is now the parking lot of the Virginia Beach Convention Center near the Oceanfront, and it would be one of the first arenas in the nation to be privately owned.
