For Dr. Ralph Howell, years of wishing and hoping and planning for a free dental clinic in his hometown of Suffolk nearly came to a screeching halt just after noon on March 8.
A 185 PSI compressor, on loan from a local agency, suddenly stopped and killed all power to air and vacuum lines and effectively silenced drills and electric brushes that Howell and his fellow dentists were using to clean molars, fill cavities and suction body fluids. “They could continue doing extractions and examinations, but that was about it,” said veteran dental technician Bill Hall, who was in charge of setting up all the equipment on the floor of Kings Fork Middle School that day. “I’ve been doing this for 15 years, and this is the first time we’ve ever had a compressor go down.” (more…)

I recently wrote the column below for my blog News To Live By, which shows Millennials the career advice and leadership lessons “hidden” in the day’s top stories. The goal of a blog, in general, is to be as useful for the reader as possible.
In the piece, I give step-by-step instructions for writing critical work-related emails. My hope is that the reader will find all five email templates extremely useful.
Think about your own company blog. Are you offering real value as it relates to your area of expertise? What does your audience need to know? What are their questions, concerns and hangups? Are you meeting that need?
Contact me today (danny@rubincommunications.com) for help crafting smart content on your blog that will get noticed and generate business leads.
Here’s the opening section of the blog post:

Time and again, we see business owners who create a corporate video to promote the work they do and the proud employees who help them. We think videos are a terrific marketing tool that will “sell” for you, even if you’re not in the room when someone watches.
That being said, we often observe people create videos with all the wrong qualities and what could have been a memorable product falls flat. Very flat.
That’s why we want to share our five keys to corporate video success. At the bottom, you’ll see a video we recently finished that incorporates all five components.

After you pop the champagne and toast 2014 (and shake off the hangover), it’s time to refocus and think critically about the year ahead. Are you positioning your business for a profitable next twelve months?
Use these five questions as a guideline to ensure you dot all your “i’s” and cross your…well, you get the idea.

ARDX founder Angela Reddix wanted to show her employees how much she appreciated them. So for the Norfolk company’s holiday party, she asked Rubin Communications Group to produce a video to showcase how well the firm’s 80 employees meet their daily mission: help the US Department of Health and Human Services explain complex healthcare regulations to health insurance companies, which then have to make the laws understandable to millions of consumers.
After many weeks of brainstorming, designing and re-designing, the new RCG Web site is open for business.
We think it’s high time to polish our image and showcase our people, clients and services in a fresh way. Take a tour of our new online digs. Here’s what you’ll find:
- Enhanced home page. See the latest news on RCG and our clients through a colorful slideshow; the photos and stories change often so make sure to come back and see what we’re up to.
- Our new blog. Led by RCG’s Danny Rubin and Rachael Keshishian, the company blog will feature PR/communications strategies, RCG announcements and all kinds of creative ideas that make a blog worth reading.
- Social feeds. Monitor RCG across a range of social media channels. We’re always posting, sharing, tweeting or re-tweeting about something.
- Our services: From branding and advertising to comprehensive social media campaigns and SEO-driven research, RCG does it all.
- Newsroom. If you see a news story about one of our clients, chances are we’re behind it. RCG clients want their stories told, and we have the tools, resources and relationships in media to make it happen
We’re thrilled to announce that the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Hampton Roads chapter has named our founder and president Joel Rubin its 2013 PR Practitioner of the Year.
The honor is even more significant because it’s now named after the late P. Lee Starkey, the ‘father of public relations’ here in Hampton Roads.
Starkey, a legend in the local PR community, earned the first-ever PR Practitioner of the Year award in 1986 and was a mentor when Joel started the business in 1991. Starkey’s widow Earlene and Mindy Hughes, last year’s award recipient, presented a plaque to Joel before fellow PR and marketing professionals during a recent chapter luncheon.
