RCG Helps VDA Educate Virginians on Oral Health

VDADid you know that a dentist could spot signs of diabetes, high blood pressure and oral cancer during routine screenings?

It’s true.  The members of the Virginia Dental Association, with the assistance of Rubin Communications Group, have launched a statewide education campaign called, “A Healthy Body Starts with a Healthy Mouth.”  It includes a powerful and informative television ad, created in partnership with the Michigan Dental Association and Seventh Point Advertising in Virginia Beach, that urges Virginians to go to the dentist twice a year, not just to have their teeth cleaned, but also to allow the dentist and hygienists to scan their mouth, head and neck for any abnormalities that ought to be referred to an MD.

Richmond area dentist Sam Galston says it’s a critical message to share with the public. He says his wife, who is also a dentist, had twice sent a patient on for further care after noticing a high blood pressure reading prior to administering anesthesia. After the second test, he finally went on medication. “Talk about a VDA dentist possibly saving the same patient’s life TWICE!” says Galston, who says he is “proud of the VDA for having the courage and foresight to initiate this public relations campaign.” RCG is scheduling dentists on media talk shows across Virginia and encouraging reporters to spread the word about the value of dental screenings to overall good health.
