NORFOLK (August 19, 2014) – Sprints, push-ups and squats are all standard CrossFit exercises. But on the sand and in the ocean? That takes the challenge to a new level.
CrossFit Little Creek owners Corey and Starr Coleman launched the business in May 2014 and soon after began to hold “Beach Bash” workouts on Saturday mornings. CrossFit Little Creek is in Ocean View, just a short walk from the beach.
On Saturday, August 30 at 10 am, Corey and Starr will bring another group onto the beach for a unique CrossFit routine – a fast-paced circuit of running, jumping and strength conditioning on the sand and in the water. So far, around 30 people, including children, have attended each “Beach Bash” workout. Everyone goes at his or her own pace, and there are no “winners.”
Corey Coleman, active duty in the Navy, loves the chance to teach the fundamentals of CrossFit in a fresh way.
“The beach workouts were a big hit immediately,” says Coleman. “CrossFit is so popular today, and there are a lot of places to do the workouts. But we offer a version on the sand, and the change of pace appeals to people.”
In addition, the “Beach Bash” workouts are great for families. Parents don’t need to find a babysitter on a Saturday morning – they can bring their kids along and let them work out too.
“We’re all about building community,” says Starr Coleman. She and Corey have four children of their own. “We want to make the workouts fun and allow people to choose their own level of difficulty. Plus, who doesn’t love to spend extra time on the beach?”
The media is invited to attend the “Beach Bash” on August 30 from 10-11 am and observe the workout firsthand. Please arrive at CrossFit Little Creek at 9567 Shore Drive at 9:30 am. You can even bring exercise clothes and join the action.
