VIRGINIA BEACH (February 3, 2014) – Hampton Roads home and apartment builders and remodelers, as well as homeowners, have a new source for quality windows, doors and siding as well as their installation. It’s a company headed by a well-respected local businessman who formerly sold them their wine, beer, distilled spirits and Red Bull.
In December 2012, D.J. “Jimmy” Rogers and his family sold the remaining 50% of their local beverage alcohol company, Associated Distributors, to their partner, The Charmer Sunbelt Group. Retirement though was not in Rogers’ long-range plans. So in 2013, he became aware of an opportunity to purchase the operations of Newtown Window and Door, formerly Greenwich Supply Corporation. “Business had dropped off, but there were experienced people there ready to do the heavy lifting if someone could provide the leadership,”
Within three months, Rogers had leased the company’s former warehouse and offices at 5789 Arrowhead Drive, refurbished the interior and warehouse, fashioned a showroom and with business partner Dave Liebig, who had more than two decades of experience in the home building field, was ready to launch Newtown Building Supplies, Inc.
National suppliers including United Window and Door, Weather Shield, Masonite, Sunrise Windows, Heartland Siding by ProVia, The Tapco Group, Legacy Products, Hy-Lite, The Foundry, Dyke Industries and Rehau/Eco Windows agreed to have Newtown represent them. “I knew a lot about motivating employees and making customers happy,” says Rogers. “Fortunately we had some quality project managers and installers from the Newtown Window and Door/Greenwich Building Supply days and have hired more. We are now building back the business, one customer at a time.”
“Jimmy has really revitalized our company with his enthusiasm and drive,” says Liebig, who also previously worked for Newtown Window and Door/Greenwich Supply Corporation. “He is a fast learner, and we are hustling everyday.” The evidence is in a large, bustling exterior shop area where employees are customizing doors and windows for apartment and single-family home contractors and homeowners. New trucks are in the bays, taking product out to work sites for installation.
“We invite builders and remodelers as well as homeowners to come by our place, see our showroom, tell us about their needs and check out our prices,” says Sales and Business Development Manager Joe Ramsey, an engineer with extensive background in multi-family housing construction. “We offer product and labor warranties and are confident we can handle any job, big or small.”
“I never thought five years ago I would be in this business,” says Jimmy Rogers. “It’s a challenge, but I’m thrilled to be working with a great group and bringing value to a new set of clients. It’s all good.”
