FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Virginia Beach, Va. – The Volunteer Rescue Squads of Virginia Beach recently named Kevin Lipscomb the 2013 Gilpin Distinguished Service Award recipient at the 62nd Annual Awards Banquet on January 11. The award was instituted in 2005 to recognize individuals whose outstanding actions and activities have helped to strengthen and enhance the volunteer rescue squad system in Virginia Beach.
Lipscomb has been a member of the Kempsville Volunteer Rescue Squad for nearly 25 years. He was responsible for creating the computer program that records and tracks the monthly duty roster of volunteers system-wide, and he recently organized and managed a collaborative fundraising effort with six of the ten volunteer squads throughout the City.
“Kevin’s skill and talent in technology along with his intimate knowledge of the uniqueness of the Virginia Beach volunteer EMS system is what made our current tracking system a reality,” said Kitty Schaum, Executive Director of the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad Foundation. “As he approaches 25 years of service to the Volunteer Rescue Squads of Virginia Beach, we are excited for this opportunity to recognize someone who whole-heartedly cares and believes in the EMS system.”
