Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads (HSHR) is proud to take part in a special community event on Tuesday, June 5 in Suffolk from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (address is 224 E. Pinner Street).
A collection of volunteers from HSHR, Home Depot, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the Hampton Roads REALTORS Association (HRRA) will come together to repair the home of Carrie Caldwell, a Gold Star mother who lost her son during Operation Desert Storm.
HSHR “Red Hats,” a core of experienced volunteer builders, will provide onsite supervisory assistance while volunteers complete a host of repairs including:
- Remove furniture into temporary storage truck
- Remove old kitchen and install new cabinets, dishwasher and counter tops
- Lay new flooring throughout the house
- Install recessed can lights in kitchen and replace fixtures throughout
- Paint the interior of the house, including the ceiling
- Spruce up the outside with paint, remove an awning, paint roof and do landscaping
Media is encouraged to arrive throughout the day for photos, videos and interviews. Ms. Caldwell will be on site.
