“Green Streets” Will Recognize Blocks and Neighborhoods That Recycle Regularly in Southside Hampton Roads

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chesapeake, VA – TFC Recycling, Virginia’s largest recycler, is preparing to identify and recognize streets and neighborhoods that regularly put their blue bins on the curbside and fill them with acceptable paper, plastic and metal items. TFC, which collects the discards in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Suffolk and processes them for other cities in the region, will announce the program on November 15, America Recycles Day.

Green Streets will honor blocks and neighborhoods every month that have recycling participation rates of 80% or higher. The first streets will be announced when the program officially launches in early 2017.

However, right now, residents in the four identified cities can begin submitting nominations now through GreenStreetsVA.com. TFC will consider the public submissions as well as electronic data it has from its collection process to choose the Green Street designees. Their names will be promoted through the news media, social media and other platforms.

Green Streets will also promote the value of recycling only accepted items including aluminum, paper, glass, plastic bottles and now, milk, juice and broth cartons.

“These blocks and neighborhoods should be proud of what they do to protect the environment,” says Michael Benedetto, President/Owner of TFC Recycling. “Through Green Streets, we strive to promote environmental awareness, a cleaner waste system and most importantly, community pride.”
