When: Saturday, April 30 (7 am – 5 pm)
Where: Green Run High School (1700 Dahlia Dr. in Virginia Beach)

The Virginia Dental Association Foundation (VDAF) Mission of Mercy (MOM) Dental Clinic in Virginia Beach, in partnership with the Virginia Dental Association (VDA) and the VCU Schools of Dentistry and Dental Hygiene, will provide free care to hundreds of Hampton Roads residents from 7am-5pm on Saturday, April 30 in the gymnasium at Green Run High School in Virginia Beach. The event continues the 2016 MOM project season and marks the 87th MOM event to date.

The MOM program, created in Virginia by Dr. Terry Dickinson in 2000, is now in its 17th year. As a program of the Virginia Dental Association Foundation (VDAF), MOM has served more than 59,908 patients statewide. Throughout 2016, MOM will also treat several thousand people in Richmond, Wise and Grundy.

The oral health care teams will perform cleanings, fillings, extractions, root canals and other procedures. Ten pre-selected patients will also receive dentures. Typically adults (no children will be treated at this event) who cannot afford regular dental care and have pain or other oral health issues arrive early in the morning. Treatments begin at 7 am and continue until 5 pm.

VDAF President Mr. Patrick Finnerty, VA Beach dentist Dr. David Throckmorton and Chesapeake dentist Dr. Barclay Weisberg, as well as a number of other dentists from the Hampton Roads area, will be available for media interviews and offer tours of the patient treatment area starting at 10 a.m. All press are asked to contact Danny Rubin at 757-285-7617 or danny@rubincommunications.com.

The VDAF organizes the MOM clinics and engages sponsors for the program. For the Virginia Beach project, sponsors include Sentara Healthcare & Optima Health, the Virginia Health Care Foundation, the Virginia Dental Association, and the VCU School of Dentistry.

“Virginia Dental Association members have a long history of giving back to our community both individually and collectively through volunteering at local clinics,
said VDA President Rick Taliaferro. We provide work in our offices and with various MOM projects like the one in Virginia Beach where we have provided millions of dollars of free dental care to the needy. It is our commitment to our community.”
