DockDogs 2013 Will Showcase Three Days of High-Flying Canines

Virginia Beach, VA –Care-A-Lot DockDogs returns for the 6th Annual Pet Lovers Extravaganza and DockDogs competition April 26-28. America’s most athletic dogs will  be showcasing their skills right outside the Care-A-Lot Pet Supply headquarters at 1617 Diamond Springs Road in Virginia Beach.

DockDogs is one of America’s fastest growing sports featuring jumping, soaring and retrieving dogs, guided by owners and trainers to leap into the pool to the end of the ramp. More than 8,000 people are expected for the Extravaganza over the course of the weekend. Admission is free for all spectators.

“This is the 25th anniversary of Care-A-Lot, and we are excited to invite new and returning participants to celebrate 25 years of service in the Hampton Roads community,” says Bobby Clarke, owner of Care-A-Lot. “Young or old, veteran or amateur, dogs of all breeds and ages are invited to sign up for this year’s competition. Any dog that is healthy and vaccinated is welcome to enter. All you need is a dog and a toy.”

Representatives from over 50 pet supply manufacturers such as Iams, Innova, Kong, Greenies, Nutro, Blue Buffalo, Purina, Dingo, Nature’s Miracle, and Smokehouse Treats will be on hand to provide training tips, product information and sampling.

Online pre-registration for DockDogs continues until April 19 at 11:45 p.m. EST at www.DockDogs.com. There will be onsite registration an hour before each day’s competition begins, but space is very limited.

Events will include:

  • Outdoor BIG AIR®– the long jump equivalent for canine athletes
  • Extreme Vertical– high jump contest
  • Speed Retrieve– canine quickness

  • Best Pet Kiss
  • Tiniest Pet
  • Owner/Pet Look-A-Like
  • Daily prize drawings

Times for competition are:

  • Friday, April 26: 1:00 pm – 6:30 pm
  • Saturday, April 27: 9:00 am – 7:00 pm
  • Sunday, April 28: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Care-A-Lot is showing its support for pet adoption with its yearlong partnership with the Norfolk SPCA kicking off at this year’s competition. Every dog adopted from the shelter will receive royal treatment with free toys and food, as well as discounts on other Care-A-Lot favorites valued up to $200.

Last year’s hit K9’s in Flight returns with 10 appearances over the weekend of ”homeless to high-flying” World Champion Frisbee catching dogs, all of the which were rescued from the streets or adopted from shelters around the country.  http://www.airmutts.com/
