WATSONVILLE, Calif. (September 3, 2013) – One hundred forty children with special needs and their families will depart the Hampton Sunset Creek Boatel on September 7, 2013 for a day of fishing, thanks to the Wish-A-Fish Foundation.
Five days later on September 12 from 6-9 p.m., all Hampton Roads residents will be able to support the continuing efforts of Wish-a-Fish and several other local and national nonprofits involved in fishing and boating by attending “Cruising for a Cause” at the new West Marine flagship store at Loehmann’s Plaza in Virginia Beach.
All proceeds from the sale of $10 admission tickets will be donated to Wish-a-Fish Foundation, BoatU.S. Foundation, Great Bridge Fisherman’s Association, Norfolk Anglers, Portsmouth Anglers, Virginia Beach Anglers Club and Catchin’ for Kids, which sponsors an annual rockfish tournament each December that raises money to buy presents for underprivileged children at Christmas. Tickets will be available at the door or can be purchased in advance from one of the nonprofits.
“Cruising for a Cause” will begin at 6 p.m. with a ribbon cutting and brief remarks with Virginia Beach Mayor Will Sessoms. Guests will enjoy food from Reginella’s Restaurant, also located at Loehmann’s Plaza, and entertainment by popular singer/guitarist Lewis McGehee.
Attendees can also meet nonprofit representatives, bid on auction items to benefit the charities and tour the expansive new store, which features a wide selection of advanced marine electronics, inflatable boats, watersports equipment, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, safety gear and more. The new “Bait Shack” boasts a broad selection of saltwater fishing equipment for near and offshore angling.
