Our hats are off to WestJet airlines this week. The WestJet Christmas Miracle idea has, quite literally, taken off.

Unsuspecting passengers were asked by Santa Claus what they really wanted for Christmas before boarding a flight in Canada. When they landed, wrapped presents addressed to each passenger slid down into the baggage carousel and the rest is Internet history. As of today, the video has over 7 million likes on YouTube. Thanksgiving used to be a sacred American holiday, and no company would even imagine opening the doors to do business.

Slowly, Turkey Day has morphed into “Gray Thursday,” in which major chains flip on the lights during the holiday to make a few extra bucks. At the same time, several other retailers decided to stay closed and give its employees the time off.

No one was prouder than sculptor — and RCG client — Richard Stravitz on the Friday morning of homecoming weekend at Old Dominion University. The school had just unveiled the results of his painstaking work (that took over a year) of a bronze statue of popular mascot Big Blue. “It’s an honor to have had this opportunity,” said Stravitz, who fashioned the seven-foot-tall replica in the studio of his Virginia Beach gallery.
