NORFOLK, Va. – Members of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Hampton Roads Chapter will join forces with the United Way of South Hampton Roads to bring communications skills and advice to local nonprofit organizations during the 22^nd annual United Way Day of Caring on Sept. 13.

The United Way Day of Caring was established in 1991 to promote the spirit of volunteerism, increase awareness of local human service organizations and demonstrate how people working together for the common good can accomplish great things.  Traditionally, United Way matches local volunteers in the South Hampton Roads community to nonprofit organizations and schools to complete tasks such as landscaping, painting, gardening and direct client support.  This year, however, many nonprofit organizations expressed a need for assistance with their public relations projects.  (more…)

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (September 3, 2013) – One hundred forty children with special needs and their families will depart the Hampton Sunset Creek Boatel on September 7, 2013 for a day of fishing, thanks to the Wish-A-Fish Foundation.

Five days later on September 12 from 6-9 p.m., all Hampton Roads residents will be able to support the continuing efforts of Wish-a-Fish and several other local and national nonprofits involved in fishing and boating by attending “Cruising for a Cause” at the new West Marine flagship store at Loehmann’s Plaza in Virginia Beach. Virginia Beach, Va. – The Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad is pleased to announce that all of its emergency vehicles will now feature pet oxygen masks, thanks to a donation from the Invisible Fence Brand of Hampton Roads. The rescue squad will celebrate this donation with a community event on August 3 from 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Station 14 (740 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA  23451).

An estimated 40,000 – 150,000 pets die each year in fires, according to the U.S. Fire Administration. Invisible Fence Brand, through its Project Breathe initiative, has donated more than 2,000 pet oxygen kits to first responders throughout the country with the goal of reducing that statistic. (more…)
