BARDSTOWN, KY – June 30, 2015 – Thousands of votes have been tallied, and the winner of the 2015 Cintas & Carhartt Tough Crew Contest is Charles Miles and his construction crew from Bardstown (outside Louisville), KY. Charles will receive $2,500 in credit to outfit his team in Carhartt.

In his entry, Charles described his crew as hard workers who build whiskey warehouses throughout Kentucky for some very well known brands. (more…)

Who and What? Westminster-Canterbury (WC) on Chesapeake Bay will host a day of information and activities all about the brain, as they invite residents and guests for the first ever Brain Fitness Day, featuring keynote speaker Dr. Paul Nussbaum, a clinical neuropsychologist and founder of the “Brain Health Center.” From “brain foods,” to activities like tai chi, yoga and ping pong, the day will bring awareness to the issue of brain health, touch on issues like dementia and Alzheimer’s and teach adults of all ages what they can do now to keep their brains healthy and active. WC Brain Fitness Director Scott Sautter will also be on hand to answer questions on how to “cross train your brain.” The event is part of WC’s “Wellness for Life” program series. (more…)

Who and What? After a successful first year, Westminster-Canterbury (WC) on Chesapeake Bay is excited to host Seatack Elementary School for the 2nd Annual Field Day on the Bay. Seniors from WC will celebrate the students’ promotion to middle school with a day of bocce and croquet competitions. Throughout the school year, seniors visited Seatack to teach the students how to play the games, in preparation for field day events. In addition to learning games that teach discipline and teamwork, the seniors serve as (grand) parental role models and form lasting memories with the students. WHAT: Access College Foundation, which helps make college possible for low-income students in South Hampton Roads, will honor 184 local high school graduates during its 2015 Scholarship Awards Luncheon. Featured speaker will be author Wes Moore, who overcame a challenging childhood to become a New York Times best selling author and CEO of BridgeEdU, an education platform focused on college success. Following the luncheon, the students, some of whom are the first in their family to attend college, will interact one-on-one with Moore during a 30-minute Q&A session. (more…)

RICHMOND (May 11, 2015) – A crowded market full of people coming, going and eating lunch. Suddenly, people stop and notice a dental chair in the middle of the action and a dentist ready to offer oral cancer screenings. What’s going on?

On Thursday, May 14 from 11 am – 1 pm, the Virginia Dental Association (VDA) will bring a portable dental chair to the Downtown Mall. Anyone in the crowd is welcome to sit in the dental chair and allow a trained VDA-member dentist to provide a two-minute screening for oral cancer. The process is non-invasive and doesn’t require instruments; the dentist simply checks in and around the mouth area for abnormalities. (more…)

RICHMOND (May 11, 2015) – A team of experienced dentists, hygienists and other volunteers will begin a yearlong effort on May 15 to demonstrate the value of preventive dental care for seniors in long-term care facilities.

The Virginia Dental Association (VDA) and Virginia Dental Association Foundation (VDAF) will that day commence a pilot program in Richmond at 10 a.m. EST at Lexington Court Rehabilitation and Healthcare, 1776 Cambridge Court. (more…)
