Norfolk, VA — Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads and local Bank of America employees will come together in Chesapeake (1902 Stonehurst Street) as part of Bank of America’s sixth Global Build. From October 5-12, a record number of nearly 2,800 bank volunteers worldwide are working alongside homeowners to help build, rehabilitate or repair homes, helping to address affordable housing needs in 107 communities across nine countries, the largest Global Build to date.
“Affordable housing is fundamental for individuals and families to achieve economic mobility,” said Charlie Henderson, Hampton Roads Senior Vice President and Market President for Bank of America. “Renewing our partnership with Habitat for Humanity and engaging our employee volunteers is one way we can help empower our community as part of our approach to responsible growth.”
Bank of America in Hampton Roads and Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads have partnered since 2004. In that time, the Bank of America Foundation has provided significant funding for five homes in Virginia Beach and nine homes in Suffolk.
The build events in Chesapeake are part of the week-long effort that takes place throughout Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, South Africa and the U.S.
Habitat and Bank of America have partnered nationally for more than 30 years, helping homeowners build or improve the places they call home. Each year, #BofAVolunteers give more than 40,000 hours to Habitat in their communities through board service, home build initiatives and financial literacy training for future Habitat homeowners.
World Homeless Day was Thursday, October 10. To bring attention to this critical issue, both Joel and former news anchor Regina W. Mobley co-hosted a Facebook Live Telethon on October 10 from Noon – 2:00 p.m. to raise money for a building to expand services to the homeless in our region.

“Elyse Tapper Cardon began her professional dance career with Richmond Ballet, The State Ballet of Virginia, in the early 90’s and soon discovered her secondary passion: the art of teaching and coaching. This led her to open Axiom-The Pilates Center of Virginia in Chambord Commons, one of the first Pilates studios in Hampton Roads. She soon discovered a new talent and love for lifestyle photography, and added her business, Sweet People Photography®, to her growing list of achievements.
Elyse Tapper Cardon has returned full circle to the Richmond Ballet, serving as Chair of the Richmond Ballet Hampton Roads Advisory Council, as well as a dance repetiteur for the Norfolk cast of The Nutcracker.”

A homecoming parade came to Chesapeake on Saturday, March 30, 2019 but not the kind you might expect.
That’s because members of the Porsche Club of America – First Settlers Region drove 20 Porsche sport cars up and down Marcus Street in the Crestwood area of Chesapeake to celebrate the Mulrain family as new homeowners through Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads.
Once the Rubin Communications Group team learned about the Porsche Club’s involvement, we knew we had a golden media opportunity. We put out the word to our contacts at the TV news stations and newspapers and the response was immediate.
We landed coverage from the local newspaper and received mentions seven times on local TV news:
