The owner of a nearly 7-acre tract of waterfront land in Norfolk is asking a court to order a neighboring property owner to clean up and remove a fleet of derelict work and cargo vessels from a tributary of the Elizabeth River near the Campostella Bridge.

In a complaint filed late last month in U.S. District Court in Norfolk, 307 Campostella LLC says that Timothy Mullane, the owner of the adjacent property, has created a floating “junkyard” and that he has not followed through on repeated promises to clean up and clear out the waterway. (more…)

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (NEWSPLEX) — The “Where’s the Chair” Campaign set up on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville Thursday to provide free oral cancer screenings.

The program is on behalf of the Virginia Dental Association.

The chair goes from city to city to help raise awareness for oral cancer.

More than 42,000 people are diagnosed with the condition each year and statistics show more than 8,000 of them will die from it.

Dentists say taking two minutes to potentially catch the cancer early could save a person’s life.

“Screening is critical,” said Dr. Bill Viglione. “If we find it small, the cure rate is 99 percent, easy when it’s found early. Generally it’s not painful, you hardly know it happens, it happens so slowly and then when it becomes severe, the rate of success is very low.”

The screening exam consists of checking the mouth for bumps, lumps and tumors.

Take a deep breath because you’re going to need room for dinner and a movie. At Score located inside of CinéBistro at Peninsula Town Center, popcorn takes a back seat while Cherry Coke BBQ ribs and fresh lump crab cakes step up to the plate.

CinéBistro is known for being a premier movie theater, but the other half of the building is reserved for what they call Score. Complete with pool tables, bowling lanes, giant screens, a DJ booth and a decked out bar serving craft beer, wine and cocktails, Score creates a fun and energizing atmosphere for people to have a safe night out all in one place.

In movie theaters where the expectancy of quality grub is quite low, Score exceeds in raising the bar. The husband and I had a chance to sample from their menu, most of which is made from scratch, as well as some adult beverages. While there is a corporate chef, each of the CinéBistro locations’ executive chefs spin the menu to adhere to local flavors while still preparing signature items which are available at all locations.
