A career in health care never crossed David Abraham’s mind while he was in college.

He worked part-time as a bank teller while attending the University of Louisville and expected to make banking his career. After graduating with a business degree, he was transferred to the bank’s wealth management department, where he bought and sold municipal bonds for clients.

He got his start in health care 27 years ago when he and his wife Rachel, who met in their freshman year at the university, were looking for employment opportunities in Louisville and Hampton Roads to be near family. He got a job as a business office manager at Norfolk Health Care Center, where he was mentored, put through an administrator training program and taught the fundamentals of the industry. (more…)

TowneBank reported earnings of $38.29 million for the third quarter, setting another record.

“Net income increased 41.05 percent over 2017, credit quality remained strong and our return on average assets was 1.40 percent,” executive chairman G. Robert Aston Jr. stated in a Thursday press release.

Towne, which is one of the top community banks headquartered in Virginia, has $11.12 billion in total assets as of Sept. 30. It operated 40 banking offices and offers a wealth of financial services in Virginia and North Carolina. (more…)

PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA — (October 24, 2018) — The Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) has selected Wheelabrator Technologies to deliver sustainable waste management and clean, renewable baseload energy to the region for at least eight more years.

Under the agreement, SPSA, which represents eight localities – the cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach and the counties of Isle of Wight and Southampton, will have the option to extend the contract twice for up to five additional years with each extension. “SPSA’s most important priority is to satisfy the waste disposal needs of member localities by providing the highest quality of service at the lowest reasonable cost,” said Liesl DeVary, executive director of SPSA.
