I have definitely one of the coolest jobs at TowneBank. I’m not the guy that handles
all the money, but I do handle our members’ confidential information and the
protection of that confidential information, so that definitely means a lot to me.
A big part of my job is really educating myself on the new technologies that are
available to our customers, to our employees and making myself aware of what the
threats are surrounding those technologies. I don’t just keep all that knowledge. The
other part of my job is to allow our employees to know about the technology and to
help them to understand what the potential threats are.

From a 20,000-square foot warehouse off London Bridge Road in Virginia Beach, Artemis will secure and ship furniture and other items to embassies and other facilities around the world, with a particular focus on Africa or Central Asia. “Over the past year, we’ve seen exponential growth of our team and an increase in need for our services, especially in sensitive and emerging markets,” says Jim O’Brien, President and CEO of Artemis GLS and a former Marine who worked previously for Blackwater Worldwide. “We are excited to launch a new hub in Virginia Beach that will give us access to the port and the ability to better serve our clients all over the world.”

The full spectrum supply chain firm has grown from a total investment of approximately $100,000 in November 2013 to $3.8 million (April 2014) with anticipated annual revenue of $22-million in 2014. The company handles the supply chain needs for companies such as Maersk Lines Limited, the largest shipping company in the world, APL, DHL, and numerous small, medium, and large corporations in Africa, the Middle East, Central and Southwest Asia.

Whizzing through the workshop, Jerry Miller is barely audible over the whirring machines at Fairlead Integrated.

Many of those machines, some with a million-dollar price tag, are a product of a recent large-scale investment and rebranding at Fairlead, which specializes in precision metal fabrication for the U.S. Navy, Boeing and Northrop Grumman, among others.

The name Fairlead may still be unfamiliar among defense contractors, but the name Miller is not. (more…)

The above is the television coverage from when Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay opened its doors June 10 to 5th graders at Seatack Elementary School. Members of the active senior living community, who frequently play bocce and croquet on Westminster’s green space overlooking the Bay, have visited Seatack several times to teach the youngsters the rules of both games.

Virginia Beach attorney Kevin Martingayle will be sworn in Friday night as president of the Virginia State Bar.

He will be the first bar president from Virginia Beach and the fourth from Hampton Roads in the past 30 years, according to a news release from his firm, Bischoff Martingayle. The bar regulates the legal profession in Virginia, and all attorneys in the commonwealth must belong. (more…)
