Burtons Grill of Virginia Beach Debuts New ‘Smaller Plate’ Concept & Expanded Gluten-Free Offerings

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.–  Burtons Grill continues to meet the growing demands of today’s diners with more entree options, smaller plate offerings and expanded gluten- free offerings — all part of a newly refined menu the popular Hilltop area restaurant released this week. “We are making changes to reflect better what guests want, and the response has been very gratifying,” said Cliff Bennett, General Manager of Burtons Grill of Virginia Beach.

Burtons Grill is now providing more choices for customers with food allergies or who choose to dine gluten-free.  In addition to offering one of the region’s most expansive, and completely separate, gluten-free lunch and dinner menus, the restaurant has added all new gluten-free seasonal specials. “Given the pervasiveness of gluten, it can be difficult for people with gluten sensitivity to find familiar comfort food at local restaurants so we’re proud to help make their dining experience more varied,” said Bennett.

Gluten is present in breads, pastries, pastas, pies, and dozens of other wheat-based foods, but even naturally gluten-free foods such as french fries may be contaminated if prepared in the same area or fried in oil in which other breaded foods are cooked. “We take our commitment to food allergies very seriously by using separate fryers, cutting boards, and prep areas for gluten-free menu requests,” said Bennett.

“You’d be surprised how hard it is to find restaurants that offer gluten-free variety and a staff that will cater to specific dietary restrictions,” said David Zello, a loyal Burtons Grill patron. “We drive 30-minutes from Chesapeake just to dine at Burtons Grill because we trust their process to ensure our food is prepared 100% gluten-free.” At Burtons Grill this process involves using color-coded cooking utensils, specific and square shaped plates for allergy-free dishes, and having the manager personally deliver the allergy-free dish to the guest.

New Gluten-Free Menu Items:

Smaller Plates –

  • Scallops and Corn pan seared scallops, house made creamed corn, red peppers, applewood smoked bacon, hint of jalapeño
  • Shrimp Feta Pasta shrimp sautéed in butter, garlic, white wine and seasonings, blended with feta cheese, roasted tomatoes and spinach, served over gluten free pasta

Entree-

  • Grilled Pork Chop center cut free range pork chops with melted jalapeño pimento cheese, served with mashed potatoes and swiss chard
  • New York Strip aged angus beef, blackened and served over mashed potatoes and haricot verts, topped with blue cheese butter and thick cut onion rings
  • Salmon bronzed fresh, canadian salmon, heirloom grape tomatoes, herbed basmati rice, crab avocado topping, drizzled with chive vinaigrette
