He’s gotten crafty on Chopped. He’s gotten competitive on Cutthroat Kitchen. He’s put his reputation on the line on Iron Chef America. Now he’s cooking in Virginia Beach.
The Food Network’s Jet Tila will be the celebrity chef at the second annual Celebrity Chef Cooking Demonstration and Dinner at Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay.
The event will take place Wednesday at the Virginia Beach facility with a VIP cocktail reception starting at 5:30 p.m. and the demonstration and dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The dinner will feature a three-course Asian-inspired meal with recipes created by the chef.
On the menu: a first course of Thai Coconut Chicken Soup, second course of Satay Lamb Chops with Peanut Sauce and third course of Roasted Salmon with Mango Slaw and Ancient Grains.
Poached Asian Pear over Almond Cake with Franzipan cookie, toasted almonds and Japanese pinwheel will be offered as dessert.
During the dinner, chef Jet will also be up on stage for a 30-minute cooking demonstration of his “Drunken Noodles.”
Tila grew up in Los Angeles learning the traditions of Asian cuisine from his Cantonese grandmother and at his parent’s Thai restaurants.
He was appointed as the inaugural Culinary Ambassador of Thai Cuisine by the Royal Thai Consul-General in Los Angeles and is the first-ever chef to represent his country’s culture and cuisine in the United States.
The event is open to the public and sales benefit Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

A PAWS FOR SWEETS
An offering of brownies, cakes and other sweets is part of Day By The Bay: PAWS at Taste on Saturday.
The bake sale at the Bayville Farms Taste store raises money for Protecting Animals Worth Saving of Hertford County. Also on the menu: a puppy kissing booth, raffle items and adoptable dogs. The event takes place 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

WINGING IT
A few chefs may get their feathers ruffled at the War of the Wings, a chicken wing cook off between more than a dozen area eateries.
The event takes place from noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 3 at Town Center. This is the 11th year for the competition.
Teams compete in several categories: Most Flavorful, Most Original, Classic Buffalo, Hottest But Edible, People’s Choice, and Best in Show (Critics’ Choice).
