When Walter Wilkins of Norfolk saw a recent network news story about a minor traffic accident that took the life of a 26-year-old New Jersey girl, it stopped him in his tracks.
Jewel Brangman died because her airbag exploded. “It was a fender bender,” her father Alexander Brangman said. “So she should’ve walked away from it. … If you could imagine a sharp metal of a hand grenade, it hit her carotid artery and she bled out. GRUNDY, VA – Virginia Dental Association (VDA) dentists will offer free care to hundreds of people in Buchanan County at the Grundy MOM Project (Mission of Mercy Project). The event takes place October 1-2 at Riverview Elementary and Middle Schools. VDA members from across the state will join forces to provide much-needed dental care for low-income, uninsured, and underserved adults and children.
At Grundy MOM, a 1 ½ day dental clinic, volunteer dentists offer free services including cleanings, fillings, oral surgery and x-rays using portable dental equipment. (more…)

Housing Hampton Roads and Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads will host an open house on Saturday, September 24 (10 am – 12 pm) at the construction site of nine new homes in the Lake Kennedy section of Suffolk.
Each home, created through a partnership with Housing Hampton Roads and Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads, is new construction and one of four housing models. They are each single-family detached units with 3-4 bedrooms and have an average monthly payment between $650-$750. Habitat SHR homes are sold to families with zero percent net interest, no closing costs and a minimum down payment.
