FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JULY 28, 2014 — An Achievable Dream, the pioneering educational program begun 22 years ago in Newport News to benefit children in underserved communities, is now in Virginia Beach at Seatack Elementary School, 912 South Birdneck Road.
After extensive teacher training and parent interaction, the first pupils in grades kindergarten through second grade are now participating in a two-week Summer Intersession, during which they are becoming acclimated to wearing uniforms, motivational morning assemblies, as well as the Academy’s unique SAME® (social, academic, and moral education) curriculum.
On Wednesday July 30, from 8:00 – 9:30 am, media representatives are invited to watch the students arrive at school and be greeted with handshakes by adults from the community, before beginning their daily activities. Principal Mary Daniels and leadership from Virginia Beach City Public Schools and An Achievable Dream will be available for interviews.
The nearly 200 children in grades K-2, who come primarily from the Seatack attendance zone, will return to the school on September 2 when classes begin across Virginia Beach. Zoned third through fifth grade students will continue at Seatack, and the principal and staff will work to share some An Achievable Dream experiences with all students. One grade level will be added to the Seatack, An Achievable Dream Academy each subsequent year.
