WHAT: Access College Foundation, which helps make college possible for low-income students in South Hampton Roads, will honor 184 local high school graduates during its 2015 Scholarship Awards Luncheon. Featured speaker will be author Wes Moore, who overcame a challenging childhood to become a New York Times best selling author and CEO of BridgeEdU, an education platform focused on college success. Following the luncheon, the students, some of whom are the first in their family to attend college, will interact one-on-one with Moore during a 30-minute Q&A session.

About Wes Moore: A Baltimore native, Wes Moore is a veteran, Rhodes Scholar and the founder of BridgeEDU. His first book, The Other Wes Moore, tells the tale of two young men with the same name, living in the same troubled city. One grew up to be a White House Fellow after serving in the prestigious 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army. The other is currently serving a life sentence for murder.
Moore’s most recent book, The Work, is a collection of, “…incredibly valuable lessons about what it means to create lives that matter…[it is] a way of exploring the meaning of success in a volatile, difficult, and seemingly anchorless world.”
