2,000 Hampton Roads students celebrate college acceptances

With over a month to go until graduation, Hampton Roads seniors celebrated another milestone Tuesday: They got in.

About 2,000 seniors filled the Ted Constant Center to celebrate their college acceptances. Hosted by the Access College Foundation, students from Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and Northampton County gathered to cheer for one another and their futures.

Colleges from around Virginia, businesses and the foundation also handed out $25,000 in scholarships during the fourth annual celebration. The foundation’s focus is helping students attend college who may not be able to otherwise. About a third of the students raised hands when a speaker asked how many would be the first from their families to attend college.
