TowneBank’s new Ghent branch is hipster-friendly

NORFOLK

The latest hipster-friendly hangout to open in Ghent will recharge you with coffee, your cellphone with power, and your dog with water.

It will also take your money. All of it.

That’s because it is actually TowneBank’s newest branch, which opens today at Colley and Westover avenues. It features free Starbucks coffee, a lounge with charging stations and an outdoor doggie water fountain.

Norfolk’s heritage is reflected in art and photographs, said Starr Oliver, senior executive vice president and chief marketing and human resources officer. A video wall will display information about local events and serve as a community bulletin board. The scene is a far cry from the button-down-shirt image the Suffolk-based bank has projected in its other branches and through its branding.

When in Rome?

“Ghent is such a vibrant and active community that we wanted to design a banking center that fit in well with the local lifestyle,” Oliver said. “… The doggie water station is unique to Ghent because it is such an active walking and pet-friendly community.”
