Here’s What’s Happening at RCG This Week

Boy, is it a busy week for the public relations staff at Rubin Communications Group!

From an anniversary event in Virginia Beach to competitive senior games in Newport News and free oral cancer screenings in Charlottesville, our clients (see past and current clients) have us on our toes with events across the state. If you see it in the news, chances are we made it happen.

Here’s what’s happening at RCG this week:

WEDNESDAY, May 13 (Virginia Beach, VA)

RCG President Joel Rubin will lead a seminar on the tools and resources to effectively handle a PR nightmare. The seminar is part of the education series from the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce. Joel’s discussion takes place at Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad, also an RCG client. Like we said, we’re everywhere this week!

WEDNESDAY, May 13 – SATURDAY, MAY 16 (Newport News, Va)

The 37th annual Virginia Senior Games provides an opportunity for men and women 50 and over to compete in various sports like tennis, swimming, running, walking, bowling and more. RCG client Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay has 18 seniors competing over the course of the week!

THURSDAY, MAY 14 (Norfolk, Va)

We’re excited for Thursday’s grand opening ceremony of TowneBank’s new Ghent office at the corner of Colley and Westover Avenue. The event will be held at 9 am. The new building was designed to reflect elements of Norfolk’s heritage, and features include a lounge with charging stations, a large video wall with local event information, free Starbucks coffee, a doggie water fountain, drive-in banking and a Towne24 ATM.

THURSDAY, MAY 14 (Charlottesville, Va)

Each year, 42,000 people are diagnosed with and 8,000 die from oral cancer. That’s why the Virginia Dental Association wants to make sure all Virginians are screened for the deadly disease. On Thursday, May 14 from 11 am – 1 pm, the Virginia Dental Association (VDA) will bring its “Where’s the Chair?” campaign to the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville. Anyone in the crowd is welcome to sit in the dental chair and allow a trained VDA-member dentist to provide a two-minute screening for oral cancer.

FRIDAY, MAY 15 (Richmond, Va)

The Virginia Dental Association (VDA) and the Virginia Dental Association Foundation (VDAF), will commence a pilot program in Richmond at 10 am EST at Lexington Court Rehabilitation and Healthcare, 1776 Cambridge Court. A team of experienced dentists, hygienists and other volunteers will begin a yearlong effort on May 15 to demonstrate the value of preventive dental care for seniors in long-term care facilities.

SATURDAY, MAY 16 (Hampton, Va)

On Saturday May 16, Score, located upstairs at CineBistro at Peninsula Town Center, will host a “Five Star Celebration” saluting the military and local community. From 1 – 6pm, Score is offering free bowling for active duty military and veterans. A cocktail party, open to the public, begins at 8 pm. Drink and food specials, as well as free prizes (including a $500 gift card!) will run throughout the night. For more information or to make reservations, call 864-0632 or visit ScoreHampton.com.

SATURDAY, MAY 16 (Virginia Beach, Va)

Congratulations are in order for Payday Payroll Services! The company is celebrating its 30th anniversary this weekend with special guests and employees. What started with founder Andy Kline here in Virginia Beach has branched into a successful family-owned payroll business (his three sons work there, too!) in Virginia and Florida.
