My, where has the time gone?
Twenty-five years ago, Joel and Sara Jo made a fateful decision. He would leave his safe job as a reporter at WAVY TV and embark on a new career. With former fellow WAVY reporter Cathy Midkiff Lewis, they launched Rubin Lewis Media during a party at the D’Art Center in Norfolk. It was low budget. Joel worked out of the family playroom, occasionally meeting Cathy at a small office they secured for a pittance at the Greenhouse Agency downtown. Their method of computer storage? Floppy disks! How did they communicate with clients? A beeper!
Cathy returned to radio where she continues to host a popular noontime talk show on WHRV FM along with other projects. The company became the Joel Rubin Agency, now with Sara Jo alongside, balancing raising two children (with Joel of course) and learning how to manage the back office of a growing public relations firm. After Dan Cawley joined the company, it became Rubin Cawley. When Dan moved on, Rubin Communications Group was born, now with three Rubins and a team of outstanding designers and account execs.
Throughout 2016, we will look back on some of our favorite projects and hear from past and current clients on what it means to work with the RCG team.
Take a trip down memory lane with us as we celebrate 25 years!
