RCG’s Top Picks for the Fall Season in Hampton Roads

by Rachael Keshishian

When we’re not “making things happen” for our clients with marketing and public relations campaigns, the RCG team likes to have fun in the community. We enjoy attending events, giving back to local non-profits and networking over a pumpkin beer or two (and a Shocktop for Joel).  Here are our top picks this fall.

We’re all big supporters of the Kiwanis Harbor Party, but this is one of Joel’s favorites each year. The event raises money for children’s charities and is attended by some of the region’s top politicians. It’s all you can eat BBQ and seafood and all you can drink beer and wine. For the first time ever, Smartmouth and O’Connor breweries will be there too. You can buy tickets at the door this Thursday, October 9th at Town Point Park in Norfolk.

Ashley’s pick is the Stockley Gardens Fall Arts Festival in Ghent on October 18-19. It’s free and features live entertainment, beautiful art and jewelry and benefits Hope House.

You’ll find Sara Jo out at the TowneBank Fall Extravanganza. It takes place Saturday, October 18 at TowneBank’s headquarters in Harbour View (Suffolk). It really is an event you can’t miss. It features food stations from some of the area’s top restaurants, as well as wine and beer, great live entertainment, a silent auction and a raffle drawing that includes major vacation giveaways. Plus the Extravaganza raises over $100,000 annual for the TowneBank Foundation, which supports many local causes. Last year, Sara Jo and Joel won the trip to Asheville and stayed at the Biltmore Estate.

Jessica loves fall on her side of the HRBT, and there are so many great events starting with Bay Days in Hampton and Newport News Fall Festival. But if you’re looking for something coming up soon, she highly recommends the 34th Annual Poquoson Seafood Festival on October 17-19. It’s a fun and tasty Peninsula favorite saluting the watermen who work along the Chesapeake Bay. Come hungry!

Danny’s choice is the First Landing Fall Festival. It’s a family-friendly event complete with hay rides, pumpkins and activities for kids. The event is free, going on October 18th, 2-6 p.m.

My choice this fall is the Chesapeake Wine Festival. It’s coming up this Saturday. Normally I stick to Virginia Beach events, but for this festival I break my rule. Over 20 Virginia wineries, local artists and good music make it worth it each year.

We think there’s something here everyone can enjoy. Stop and say hi if you see us out this season!
